I invited my parents to breakfast this morning and they suggested we try DeDe’s Restaurant in St. George, Utah.  DeDe’s is a quaint little diner on the corner of Dixie Drive and Valley View Drive.  We were immediately seated and given a menu with wonderful breakfast selections.  DeDe’s has been voted BEST OMELETS in St. George by Trip Advisor.   I selected an omelet and buttermilk biscuit.  They were both delicious.  My parents decided on strawberries and cream french toast.  The french toast and bacon were delicious too.  My grandfather was a cook and my mom talked about how DeDe’s food reminded her of her father’s cooking at home, years ago.

There is a wonderful breakfast menu with “25 Dang Delicious Omelets,” as well as several breakfast…

According to a new analysis done by SmartAsset, Washington County is the 14th in new investments this year out of 3,000 counties across the United States.

An investment, according to this study, occurs whenever a new business is opened, a house is built, a company moves in, or a government agency supports a project. The fact that all of these are occurring in the area, shows that there is still plenty of growth to come. Washington County has already been seeing plenty of it recently. New homes are popping up everywhere as more people and businesses choose to make this area their home. Data from the study showed a 13.7 percent growth in business, 36 new building permits per 1,000 homes last year, and a 5.4 percent increase in job growth. The study…

There will be a total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21.  The eclipse will be visible throughout Southern Utah.  There are several places throughout the United States that will be able to see the total phase of the solar eclipse, but we will be able to observe a partial solar eclipse here in St. George.

According to the website Time and Date, a “total solar eclipse occurs when the New Moon comes between the Sun and Earth and casts the darkest part of its shadow, the umbra, on Earth.  A full solar eclipse, known as totality, is almost as dark as night.”  There is a narrow path across the U.S.A, (approximately 70 miles), from the West Coast to the East Coast that will be able to see a total solar eclipse.  This eclipse is being referred to as the…

I have been driving by a beautiful farm, on acres of land, for several months now.  I finally went to investigate (for Trail Tuesday) and found a wonderful surprise.  It is the Hela Seegmiller Historical Farm.  It is located at 2592 South 3000 East in St. George (Little Valley), Utah.

This beautiful farm is park of St. George City Parks and was built on land that was a workable farm.  The Seegmiller family gifted the land to the City of St. George so that the city would build an historical farm with the look of the original homestead.  I spent my time walking around the grounds and enjoyed every minute.  There is a barn (pavilion) which holds 134 people, picnic tables, a garden area, an orchard, corrals, and…

If you’re like me, you are intimidated by starting the process of getting a mortgage. Like most things, it’s the unknown that is scary. Learning about the process bit by bit can make the process more manageable. So before you call your real estate agent, here are a few quick things to know to make the process less intimidating.

  1.        Examine your Financials

Before you do anything else, you want to make sure you are in a good enough financial state to even consider taking on this responsibility. Analyze your debts. Do you have a lot of debt? Will buying a house make it harder to pay off the debt? After analyzing your debts, make sure you have enough money saved to make a down payment. Will a down payment deplete you? Do you have enough…

I have been driving by the Dixie State University Stadium for several months now to see how the renovation of the new stadium is going.  Yesterday Dixie State University Athletics announced that the second renovation phase of the Legend Solar Stadium complex will begin later this month.  The university received a $10 million donation from Legend Solar in the spring of 2016, to renovate the stadium.   The track and field looks beautiful.  They were painting the seats in the stadium this morning.

The second phase of construction includes adding an east grandstand that will have 5,000 seats along with lockers rooms, restrooms and concession stands.  The stadium will remain closed to all general public access until it is completed due to safety…

After driving to the Toquerville Falls this week, our family wanted to find a place to enjoy breakfast.  I looked up breakfast locations near the road to the Toquerville Falls and came across a wonderful surprise in La Verkin, Utah.  Several people have posted reviews about the River Rock Roasting Company and so we chose to have breakfast here.   We love the place!

The River Rock Roasting Company sits on the edge of a canyon overlooking the Virgin River.  You can sit inside the café or you can sit outside on upper deck or lower seating area and enjoy the views.  River Rock is located at 394 South Main Street in La Verkin, Utah.  La Verkin is approximately 20 miles from St. George.  You can reach La Verkin by driving south from Toquerville or…

Trail Tuesday took me on more of a wild drive than a hike this week.  I have been hearing about the Toquerville Falls for several months, but have not had the chance to explore the area until today.  It is beautiful!  It has been described as an “oasis in the desert” and that is truly what it is.  You need to drive a truck, SUV, or ATV to get to the Toquerville Falls because the road is extremely rough in some places.  You need clearance on whatever vehicle you are driving because of the rough road, more than you need 4-wheel drive.

When we arrived at the falls we found that the water was flowing heavily due to the recent rainstorms.  We were ready to jump in the swimming hole, but the water current was too fast to do it.  The water was red…
