St. George, Utah is one of the best places in all of the United States to hold a race. The scenery, the weather, the community involvement, and the energetic environment in St. George can't be compared to. As a racer, you will have all of the support and resources you'll need to have an enjoyable race, especially because the community loves to get involved and the locals love to come support local events. St. George hosts many races and events throughout the year, the most popular include the Iron Man, the St. George Marathon, the Snow Canyon Half Marathon, and Huntsman World Senior Games. Iron Man

The Iron Man is known for being one of the most rigorous triathlons in the world. The most elite athletes participate in a swim, run, and bicycle sequence. The Ironman has been a part of the St. George community since 2009 and is scheduled this year on May 6, 2023. This is not just any Iron Man, it's the World Championship for the Iron Man 70.3. The St. George Iron Man takes place amidst some of the most scenic landscapes in the world, and is one of the most popular and widely followed of the Iron Man events.  The swim takes place at beautiful Sand Hollow Reservoir, the bike course is one of the most challenging in the Iron Man circuit, and the running course is through the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and ends in the heart of the historic St. George town square. Whether you’re a serious racer or even just a fan of watching and supporting the participants, the St. George Iron Man is an amazing and inspiring event to be involved in. 

St. George Marathon

The St. George Marathon, coming up on October 7, 2023, is a very popular race in town. This year will be the 47th annual race and it usually features over 5,000 runners. Many St. George residents love to participate in the race and many other locals get excited to simply watch the race from the sidelines. Not to mention, October in St. George is a beautiful time of year. The weather is breezy and cool which can feel refreshing for the runners. The St. George Marathon is a classic race in the St. George area, and one that any marathon runner will thoroughly enjoy.

Snow Canyon Half Marathon

The Snow Canyon Half Marathon is set to be on November 18, 2023. If you’re not a fan of the long and extra challenging races, the Snow Canyon 5k is a perfect race for you. The race winds through the beautiful scenery in Snow Canyon State Park. Each runner can enjoy the views of ancient lava flows and red sandstone hills in this stunning area. Anyone lucky enough to participate can experience a runner’s high in the natural wonderland that is Snow Canyon. If you’re new to running marathons, this race is a great way to start.

Huntsman World Senior Games

Last, but not least, on our list is the Huntsman World Senior Games, the largest annual multi-sport competition for seniors worldwide. Founded in 1987, these games have been a staple in the St. George community since then. The games take place from October 9-21, 2023 and athletes 50 years of age and older from all over the world can participate. Not only do these games have races, they include a wide variety of sports for seniors such as archery, pickleball, rowing, soccer, and square dancing, to name only a few. The total number of countries that participated last year was 86. These games are an amazing way to unite the world through the love of physical activity and friendly competition in the little town of St. George, Utah.
