I am always looking for new places to paddleboard around St. George, which is my favorite thing to do in the entire world.   I have gone paddleboarding in several places in Southern Utah, but have always wondered about Lake Mead.  I talked my daughter Samantha into going on a road trip down south to Lake Mead.  We piled our rafts and our floating cooler into the car and drove about an hour and a half to the lake.   I was hoping that Lake Mead would be just as beautiful as Lake Tahoe, one of my favorite places in the world.  Lake Mead is not like Lake Tahoe at all, but it is beautiful, serene, peaceful and uncrowded.  We blazed our own trail and took a dirt road to the lake.  We pumped up our rafts, attached our floating cooler and pushed off the…

Sand HollowSand Hollow State Park

If you have not had the opportunity to see Sand Hollow State Park, you need to fit a visit into your schedule.    Sand Hollow became a public state park in 2003 and is about 15 miles east of St. George.  According to the Utah State Parks website, Sand Hollow is a “sprawling 20,000-acre park with recreation opportunities for everyone.”  You can camp, fish, boat, bike, paddleboard and ride an off highway vehicle (OHV) on Sand Mountain which overlooks the Sand Hollow reservoir.  The water is warm and a brilliant blue color.  IRONMAN 70.3 was held in St. George this year and the swim part of the challenge took place at Sand Hollow.
