Browse Real Estate in Hurricane Valley & the St George Area

Hurricane spans approximately ten miles from the center of town to its western city limits and includes a variety of home developments and neighborhoods. Young families will find communities catering to their needs while retirees and second-home seekers will find golf course real estate opportunities at Sky Mountain and Sand Hollow Resort as well as Elim Valley, a master-planned, European-style community.

Hurricane City Background

Though most likely named for the Hurricane Fault that runs along the city’s northeast edge, Mormon legend reports that Hurricane was named by pioneer Erastus Snow when the area’s unruly wind gusts ripped the top off of his buggy during a visit. Either way, the city is aptly named.

The city’s population estimate as of 2008 is just over 13,000, but Hurricane is nestled in the Hurricane Valley along with two other towns, LaVerkin and Toquerville. Altogether, the valley population is nearly 20,000.

Hurricane City Amenities

Hurricane maintains a small-town feel and friendly atmosphere. Services available locally are grocery including WalMart, hardware, banking, pharmacy, natural foods, medical with urgent care and more. Cafés and fast food are available in Hurricane, and residents utilize nearby St. George for further shopping, entertainment and dining services.

Hurricane is located twenty miles northeast of St. George, is approximately 3200 feet in elevation and 18 miles from Zion National Park. Two reservoirs, which are also state parks, are located just five miles west of town: Sand Hollow Reservoir and Quail Lake. Both are popular boating, fishing, swimming and camping destinations. Two golf courses serve the Hurricane area: municipal course Sky Mountain Golf Course and public course Sand Hollow Golf Resort. Both offer excellent challenges and spectacular views year-round.

Several Washington County School District Schools serve Hurricane including two elementary schools, an intermediate school, a middle school and Hurricane High School.
