Sand Hollow State Park - The Ultimate Playground for Campers and Lake Lovers

One of the most notable elements of the St. George, Utah area is the sunny and hot weather. As the summer months end, the climate in the Southern Utah desert stays mild and warm even into the fall months. In many areas outside of St. George, when school starts you might feel the need to bundle up and stay inside, but in St. George you can still explore and adventure in the outdoors most days of the year. Sand Hollow State Park is one of the best places to take in some fresh air and enjoy the pleasant weather.

Sand Hollow Reservoir - For Lake Lovers

The main attraction at this iconic state park is the Sand Hollow Reservoir which is easily the most popular lake in all of Southern Utah. This 1,322-acre recreational reservoir is a stunning sight with the backdrop of the surrounding red mountains and desert sands. There really is no limit to the outdoor fun that you can experience there. You can go boating on the blue lake and enjoy your favorite water sports such as wakeboarding, surfing, and tubing, to name a few. There are also spots to go cliff jumping off the red rocks and there are sandy beaches that are best for sunbathing, hanging out, and fishing. The water in the lake is a comfortable temperature that feels refreshing enough to save you from the blazing sun.

Camping & ATV Paradise

Sand Hollow is camping and ATV paradise with the orange sands, blue water and beautiful surrounding views. There are 3 total campsites in the park with a total of 110 sites, so there is plenty of space for you to establish your own camping spot. The campsites are conveniently located right beside the orange sand dunes. The dunes are perfect for ATVing and there are a number of other exciting trails to ride on as well. The park includes 10 trails, the longest covering 12 miles with the shortest covering less than one mile. These lakeside trails allow you to see and explore the beautiful red rocks on a thrilling ride along the sand.

Convenient Campsites

Whether you enjoy the comfort of camping in an RV or you’d rather sleep under the stars and camp in a tent, Sand Hollow offers the amenities you need for a pleasant and convenient camping trip. The park services offer bathrooms, showers, running water, and hook ups for vehicles. There are also many pavilions and picnic tables throughout the site that provide much-needed shade. Sand Hollow will accommodate your needs with a boat decontamination station and an RV dump station. You are also welcome to bring pets as long as they are leashed and you clean up after them. With all the services that Sand Hollow State Park offers, you can expect to be a happy camper on your trip there.

Rentals for Riding & Diving

If you want to make the most of your day at Sand Hollow, you can rent recreational equipment from the two rental places in the park, Sand Hollow Rentals and The Dive Shack. At Sand Hollow Rentals you can rent ATVs, UTVs, kayaks, paddle boards, and more. The Dive Shack rents out snorkeling and scuba gear and also provides active instructors to help guide you through your diving and assist you in getting scuba certified.  Believe it or not, at the bottom of the reservoir is an old bus, a skeleton, and even an airplane. Dive in and explore those intriguing sights for yourself.

Exciting Events

There are a number of exciting events coming to Sand Hollow State Park throughout the next couple of months. In September there will be a Red Rock Bass Tournament, Slay Nation Kayak Tournament, Search and Rescue Conference, and a couple of fishing tournaments. October’s events will include the Red Rock Bass Tournament, Kayak Fishing Tournament, Salt Lake City Bass Master Tournament, and The Trail Hero (an off-roading event focused on trail riding and rock crawling).
